Welcome to the Alaska fishing report from Nushagak River Adventures Lodge—your trusted source for real-time updates from the heart of Bristol Bay. As the most active sportfishing operation on the Nushagak River, our team spends more time on the water than anyone else. We live and breathe this fishery every day of the season.

Your Real Time Source

Nobody knows or loves this river more than we do. From our guides and chef to our hospitality crew and lodge owner, the Nushagak River holds a special place in all of our hearts. That passion drives everything we do—from tracking daily fish movement to ensuring we preserve this incredible resource for generations of anglers to come.

This stretch of river remains one of the last great places in Alaska where anglers can harvest king salmon in-river, and we take that privilege seriously.

Our Nushagak River fishing reports are updated as often as our busy season allows. For the most current updates, including videos, river conditions, salmon runs, and what’s working now, follow us on social media—we post regular highlights straight from the water.

Seasonal Alaska Fishing Report from Nushagak River Adventures Lodge

June: Kings and Sockeye

We typically kick off our Alaska fishing season in mid-June, when our guides launch their boats and start tracking the first king salmon of the year. The action often begins gradually, but just when it feels quiet—the kings show up in force. By the time the Summer Solstice hits, the Nushagak River is usually pulsing with peak king salmon activity.

Not long after, the sockeye salmon arrive in fishable numbers—typically within a week of the kings’ peak. The last two weeks of June into early July are a sweet spot for anglers who want to split their day between chasing kings and limiting out on sockeye. If that sounds like your ideal adventure, we recommend booking your cabin well in advance.

Early July: Kings and Sockeye

Our king and sockeye season typically wraps up around July 10, at which point our team takes a brief mid-season break to rest, recharge, maintain motors and boats, clean our king and sockeye rods, reels, and tackle. Meanwhile, a deep cleaning of the facilities, some annual maintenance of our structures, generators, skid steer, and side-by-side also takes place. Some staff gets to take a side trip or enjoy a fly out, then we get right back into preparation for coho season.

Late July to Mid August: Coho

Coho fishing on the Nushagak kicks off in the last few days of July and runs full steam ahead until we close for the year. It’s about three weeks of pure silver salmon excitement—fast-paced, action-packed fishing that guests come back for year after year.

This year has started strong, and we’re excited to share it with you.

The Nushagak River in Alaska continues to be one of the last places where anglers can reliably target in-river kings while enjoying the world-class sockeye and silver salmon runs that define this region.
